If the idea of vegetation growing on buildings and house walls inspires you, would you like the concept taken to its next level – a car park’s front wall, embedded with greenery? Cheungvogl, a multicultural international design studio that believes in pushing the architectural limits, is proposing to put up their latest green project named Shinjuku Gardens in Tokyo’s inner circle. The firm will replace an existing open parking lot with a 2-storey car park, which will grow vertical fields of grass on wide balustrades.

The high-tech car park will replace traditional ramps with elevators. On its roof, there will be a publicly accessed ‘Shinjuku Garden’ – a green oasis in a sea of man-made structures. Where traditional strip lighting makes way for neon-light installations, the interior walls will be converted into gallery space for exhibiting art.
