China begins building the world’s largest offshore wind farm

Presently Europe flaunts the largest offshore wind farm in the world, but China has broken ground to outdo their effort by erecting a even larger farm. Located in Bohai Bay, Beijing, the wind farm will generate 1,000 MW of power when completed. The state-owned China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) is presently looking after the design and construction of the site.

With the new project, China aims to produce 750 GW of offshore wind power off the coast of China, which is more than twice the potential 330 GW off the Atlantic coast of the US. Backed by a $2.2 billion grant from the Chinese government, the world’s largest wind turbine is scheduled for completion in 2020.
