Has it been always difficult to transport the heavy furniture as you moved from one city to another during college days? Two Toronto-based university graduates has come with a solution to provide a little respite from this. They have come with foldable desks made from recycled pieces of cardboard and selling it to the customers via mail.
The paper-made desks can be mailed in a flat box and assembled at the user’s place. You may have doubt about the durability and strength of this innovation, or rather a creative solution to a common problem. But you can place your laptop and some other gadgets on the top of the table. Also, you can arrange the books in an accompanying paper-made shelf.
The brain behind this product, Geoff Christou, Bachelor of Architectural Studies from the University of Waterloo, told The Star that he wanted to find a solution “to avoid lugging furniture around between school terms.” And, it took him about six-months of brainstorming to come with the idea.
It is not just the comfort that this paper-made desk would provide to the mobile generation, but also the Eco-credentials and the clean appearance that need to be mentioned here. The cardboard used in the making has been made from 95-percent post-consumer recycled material and it releases no gas or fumes in the air. It is free from harmful chemicals like VOC and formaldehyde. Besides, the cardboard has been coated with water-resisting glue to avoid any problem because of spillovers.
The total weight of the desk and shelf is not more than 9 pounds. But they together can support up to 150 pound of weight and it takes not more than 20 minuted to assemble. Appearance wise, the classic cardboard color would fit in any ambiance and that too at the combined cost of only $39.99.
