Oksana Mas’ Breathtaking Wooden Egg Mosaics

Eggs are a source of protein for all, but for an artist these have proved to be a source for creating beautiful mosaics. Post-vs-Proto-Renaissance has been brought to life using 3,640,000 hand-painted wooden eggs, which have been put on show at a Church in San Fantin, Venice. Measuring 92 by 134 meters, it has been decorated by thousands of people that came together from 43 different countries, which was further presented in an eye-appealing art form by Oksana. She has always made an effort to save the environment by recycling things and even this has a streak of her love for the environment.

The artist:

Oksana Mas, a skilled artist, has conceived the Post-vs-Proto-Renaissance. She lives and works at three different places namely Odessa, Stockholm and Barcelona. The colorful mosaic has fetched her a lot of praises and her work is a part of 150 private collections. Creations by this artist have been presented in countries, like Vatican City, France, Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, United States, Britain, Spain, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Latvia. Besides this, Oksana is a great painter and has also crafted sculptures. The talented artist has graduated from Ilyichevsk’s School of Arts, Odessa State Art School and also holds a degree from the Odessa State University.

The inspiration:

Eggs are an important part of Easter celebrations. Oksana Mas fetched heavy inspiration from ancient history. Colorful paintings with egg bearings have been prevalent since ancient times and are an important part of Ukrainian folk custom called Krashenki. The artist assembled more than 3.84 million wooden eggs, which have been painted by thousands of people from 42 countries, including female prisoners. She assembled these wooden eggs, painted in different colors and designs, which form one beautiful picture when viewed from a distance.

The only materials used to bring this vivid collection to life were 3.84 million wooden eggs and paint.

The artwork:

The artist, with her hard work and skill, has tried to blend the old and new forms of art. Post-vs-Proto-Renaissance will be put on display from June 4–November 27, 2011 at the Chiesa Di San Fantin, Sestiere San Marco, Venice. The mosaic bears a lot of resemblance with pictures that get pixilated when zoomed. Almost 3,640,000 wooden eggs were painted by thousands of people in their own style. Post-vs.-Proto-Renaissance measures 92X134 meters and looks very tasteful.

Green aspects:

The artist has tried her level best to save nature by reclaiming things. Oksana has skillfully used the sphere shape in her mosaic form, which she feels represents the circle of life. Wooden eggs were given to thousands of people across 42 countries, who painted them with various designs. The painters included bankers, professionals, intellectuals and also females who were behind bars. Once colored, all the eggs were presented in a beautiful, sumptuous and eco friendly manner which made people drop their jaws in surprise.
