Conceived by a team of architecture students from the Universidad de Chile, a giant skyscraper will assume the responsibility of purifying the water of the Mapocho River that flows through downtown Santiago, in Chile. The mixed-use, sustainable skyscraper will also execute its regular obligation of providing space for residential and commercial uses.
The L-shaped, honeycomb-like development will feature a series of microscopic filaments for disinfecting river water as it flows along its base. Mimicking a gigantic lagoon, the manmade wetland will employ decanting and phytoremediation for cleaning purposes. More to the point, you will several individual cells flaunting ample natural ventilation and lighting as they face a large city park along the riverbank.
