Hailed as the most influential Czech artist of the past 20 years, Jiří David recounts the fall of Communism and the resultant rise of post-modernism in the Czech Republic through his latest work. The 6-meter-tall Key Sculpture spells out the word Revoluce and takes in 85,741 keys, which Vodafone collected for the project. Expressing “ambivalence” toward the Czech society of 2010, the sculpture seeks to neutralize the prevalent antagonism of thoughts.

It was first unveiled on March 9 on Franz Kafka Square in Old Town. David developed several versions of the sculpture before installing “a 6-meter construction that somehow holds the keys.”

David says…

I hope it reflects itself. I don’t know many sculptures that reflect themselves.

Certainly, it does as 8,000 responses to the call suggesting its permanent location proves it. After touring the Czech Republic in the coming months, the sculpture will find its permanent niche in Prague.
