Eco-activist hopes to combat climate change by painting mountains white

eduardo gold paints peru mountain white

Eduardo Gold, the winner of the World Bank’s 100 ideas to Save the Planet competition, is painting Peru’s Chalon Sombrero peak white with an environmentally friendly mix of lime, industrial egg white and water. While he does so, he hopes to recreate the same Andean glacial effect through solar radiation management that could slow the melting of the glaciers. The World Bank funds the £135,000-project that includes whitewashing of three peaks. Eduardo has employed four workers from Licapa village for this. With two hectares already completed, the remedy for global warming will cover another 68 hectares soon.
