Shipping container houses are the new trend. Apart from being economical and sustainable, they can make a great style statement. Thinking on these lines Paul Stankey has come up with a cute little home made using cargo containers. Blending contemporary design with classic building parts and shipping containers, the owner brought some simple do-it-yourself processes into action.
The first thing Stankey did was he rolled the containers on the concrete foundations with the help of railroad ties, vehicular force and rounded pipes. Then the containers were welded into the piers below, after which a wood-framed wall-and-roof system was rested on the containers. This system not only gave height, but also provides sloped rainwater drainage. The last part was to place the prefab plywood doors and windows in place. The elegant dwelling of Stankey and his family is certainly something to look out for.
