Yoga offers perfect relaxation for your mind, body and soul and now even for our environment. Well, the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health is on its way to get a green renewal. Architecture firm Peter Rose + Partners has just completed the Kripalu Annex that has been loaded with ecological features and plans to refurbish the existing campus buildings, improve the landscape.
This yoga retreat located in 300 acres of dense forest in the Berkshire Mountains, North America has been teaching skills for optimal living since the past 30 years. Rose has filled Annez with subtlety and layers of complexity that gently improve the structure’s performance. Attached to the Kripalu’s existing facility through a glazed passage with a planted roof and sunny southern exposure, the 80-room Housing Tower comes with features like natural ventilation, hydronic radiant heating and cooling, cypress sun screens slide in front of each guest room window and energy saving construction.
Peter Rose + Partners’ Kripalu master plan aims to create a serene, ecologically sensitive environment and a model of environmental responsibility. This project exhibiting innovative design recently won the prestigious AIA National Housing Award in the category of Specialized Housing. Kripalu has also been awarded an Honorable Mention in the Environments category of I.D.’s 2010 Annual Design Review.
