Go green with the Zartan ‘liquid wood’ chair

Go green seems to be the new mantra worldwide; whether it means adapting to recycled materials or just being cautious about our environment in general. Product designers and concept developers are all thinking of ideas where there is a slight hint of global awareness. Preservation and conservation seem to be the new fad, following which, Philippe Starck and Eugeni Quitllet have desinged the Zartan Chair, which was spotted at the Magis booth on the Milan fairgrounds.

What is so special about this chair is that it is industrially produced without actually using plastic. Plastic as we know, takes a long time to degrade and be recycled for further use. So avoiding plastic altogether is the best way to contribute towards securing a green environment. This chair is entirely natural as it is produced from “liquid wood”, which is nothing but discarded wood dust or powder. The wood powder is further mixed with natural materials that include fibers and a wax or oil finish to create a strong, non-toxic alternative to petroleum-based plastics. This is not just safe but also provides good finishing touch to the chair. Another interesting factor is that these composite materials act like melted plastic, which helps it better to catch shape in the mold.
