Ever heard of a cabin made out of dinosaur bones? Did this just send a chill up your SPINE? Well, it’s true. As per Ripley’s Believe it or Not, the Fossil Cabin, made out of dinosaur bones and fossils in Wyoming is the oldest cabin till date. Situated eight miles east of Medicine Bow on US Route 30, this cabin has proved to be a tourist attraction and source of income for the creator, Thomas Boylan.
Designed out of 26,000 dinosaur bones extracted out from the nearby Como Bluff dig site, Thomas had been an avid fossil collector from the past 17 years. However, when he was unable to relate the collected bones to one particular specimen, he decided to use it as an inspiration for creating the cabin out of the collected bones and further turn it into a revenue generating house. Built in 1933, it has proudly stood the years without any signs of aging (Pun intended).
After Thomas Boyne’s death, the revenue for the Boyne family had begun dwindling owing to a few recent constructions in the nearby area. Apart from the tourist crowd, there was not much to look forward to in terms of monetary gains. The Fossil cabin was sold to the Fultz family who eventually turned it into a museum. Now, you can not only view but also purchase dinosaur bones, petrified sea life and things which appeal to you. As of now, the Cabin remains closed with a promise to open as soon as someone agrees to manage it.
