GE unveils high-speed residential WattStation charger for electric cars

wattstation residential electric car charger

GE brings smiles to dwellers this fall with the unveiling of a new residential electric-car charger that is claims faster and more user-friendly than traditional charging stations. The brainchild of industrial designer Yves Behar, the GE WattStation gives a full-cycle charging to a 24 kWh battery in just 4 to 8 hours as compared to the traditional charging stations that take 12 to 18 hours to do the same.

GE has collaborated with ServiceMagic, a website that connects consumers with contractors to introduce this residential version of the public charger announced in July. It will not only save you from making trips to the charging stations, but also will also tap into the smart-grid technology managed by utility companies, allowing them to manage the overall impact of electric cars on their local and regional power grids.

All the information regarding the use of certified electricians who can install the charger at a consumer’s home will be made available by ServiceMagic. For those of you who feel paying between $1,000 and $1,500 is too much a price to pay at one go, GE Capital financing arm will offer a way to pay over time.
