A better type of refrigerant (called HFO-1234yf) with an atmospheric life of just 11 days and a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of only 4 will keep General Motors’ 2013 Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac models as cool as they’re today. Honeywell is supplying the new refrigerant to GM.
The EPA-approved refrigerant is eco-friendlier than the standard R-134a refrigerant since the latter “has insignificant ozone depletion potential (ozone layer), significant global warming potential (100-yr GWP = 1430) and negligible acidification potential (acid rain).”
