The Green Energy Educational Pavillion – A sustainable structure for imparting education

The Green Energy Educational Pavillion is a concept that has been designed by Amanda Tobin. This amazing educational pavillion will not only be an institution that imparts education and knowledge to students, but will have a sustainable infrastructure which is much needed in today’s times. The Green Energy Educational Pavillion will essentially run on clean green energy – namely energy harnessed by the sun and wind. For doing this, the structure will contain solar photovoltaic panels that will be embedded on the roof top for tapping the abundant solar energy for powering many of the appliances and functions inside the structure.

The sun is a formidable source of energy whose potential is still not tapped to its optimum point. Solar energy could very well be the fuel of the future if it is made affordable and easier to exploit. Apart from that, the roof, walls and windows would facilitate optimum ventilation and hence reduce the need for air conditioning due to the various techniques adopted in making the structures. The roof will not be tightly secured to the walls, as they will contain gaps for letting in natural daylight and conserving electricity. Furthermore, this could also act very well for increasing ventilation inside the structure due to the well placed spacious windows as well! Apart from that, the structure would also have wind-driven turbines, to make the most of wind energy for taking care of the power needs of the educational building.

The proposed design by Tobin of the Green Energy Informational and Educational Pavillion would also provide more environmentally friendly features that lead to sustainable and clean living such as a charging station for recharging electric bikes conveniently – so as to reduce the carbon footprint of the people using the educational institution. Apart from that, the structure will also be having a rainwater harvesting mechanism which would be stored inside a living wall. The rainwater collection system would be very effective as the designer has made use of concrete pavements which are porous in nature.

Sustainable structures are the demand of the day as we are faced with a major power crisis in which we have to find alternative green ways to make energy without increasing our carbon footprint. It is a great effort on the part of present architects and designers who try to incorporate as many green features as they can to make the structure sustainable in itself. Having educational structures carry on in a sustainable fashion will definitely leave a lasting impression on the students for living life the clean and green way!
