Frequent travelers are always given the advice to keep themselves hydrated. Such hydration has become a problem nowadays with stringent security rules aboard aircraft. This leaves the traveler with the only option of buying bottled water across the security check. There have been several eco-friendly bottles that have been developed specifically for such travelers. These are small capacity bottles, light in weight and are intelligently designed for maximum ease of drinking. We present 5 such green water bottles.
1. The Platypus Platy bottle
This bottle has definitely been designed keeping in mind the travelers who wish to travel light. It is also very economical in its price and space occupancy. Made of BPA-free ( which means the bottle does not contain Bisphenol A which is dangerous to humans) plastic, the bottle can withstand boiling liquids and freezing with consummate ease. It is designed to hold 0.5 liter of liquid and its weight is less than one ounce. A gusseted bottom gives the otherwise flexible and pliable bottle a firm base to stand on. The sides have been designed with curves to ensure better gripping while drinking. There is only one little problem in this gem of a bottle however. The pop-up mouthpiece which has a cap without loops means that you will need both your hands every time you wish to drink water. The bottle also comes in the 1 liter and 2 liters variants.
2. The Sigg Traveler bottle
The most trendy bottle of them all! Sigg, manufactured in Switzerland, markets this bottle as one favored by eco-stars and celebrities. The bottles have ben made from recycled aluminium and they are coated from withing with a secret ingredient that ensures that the taste of aluminium is not imparted to the beverage that the bottle holds. The bottle comes in a variety of colors but the most attractive one is the classic, simple steel. The only problems with this bottle that it does not have a mouth large enough to push down ice cubes. Metal bottles are also not recommended for boiling liquids. Sigg also sweats when it holds cold fluids. It comes with solutions of course! A newly designed Sigg for holding hot beverages has been released. You can also purchase a special pouch as a guard against the sweating. Specially designed brushes are available for cleaning the 0.6 liter and 1 liter bottles.
3. Nalgene Tritan wide-mouthed bottle
This is a wide-mouthed bottle that is perfect for everyday usage. It holds 1 liter of water and can easily fit in ice cubes through the wide mouth. Nalgene was the eye of a controversy storm that claimed that the bottles were a health hazard to people as they contained Bisphenol A which is a commonly used plasticizer. Since then, the company has come up with BPA-free bottles. The wide mouth makes drinking difficult when one is riding on a motorbike or driving a car on a bumpy stretch of road. To solve this, the company has come up with accessories like the pop-up sports cap for the bottle which can be purchased separately.
4. The Camelback Better Bottle
The bottle comes designed with a ‘flip, bite n sip’ mouth which means that there is absolutely no chance of any liquid spillage. Even if you leave the flip lock open, there will be no spillage. This feature makes this BPA-free plastic bottle the best choice for driving and riding. The blue, translucent bottle with its sporty design, can also be clipped on to a backpack via a carabiner. Note however, that the bottle comes with many variant caps and in different colors too. The only problem with the internal straw and the biting mechanism is that leaning the bottle becomes a sort of a hassle.You can use the dishwasher to clean this bottle.
5. The Klean Kanteen Bottle
This bottle seems to be the best of the lot. The bottle comes without any complaints! It is sturdily built like a thermos flask with stainless steel. The mouth is the perfect size to allow ice cubes within and yet narrow so as to avoid spillage. It comes in four different sizes in seven different hues like Ocean blue and Orange sunset. That is a rich available variety for you. Since it is made of stainless steel, cleaning is not at all a problem and flavors do not linger in the bottle for long. For babies, it comes packed with a sippy. The bottle can also be used as a container used for boiling water on an open flame! It is the perfect bottle for the green traveler.
