Hear the glaciers play music!

Glaciers bring you a new form of music. Katie Paterson came up with three records made from glacier ice. Calling them ‘Langjökull’, ‘Snæfellsjökull’, and ‘Solheimajökull’, the artist let music flow from them until they melted. Paterson documented progression of the warbling watery sounds and liquefying flux on film to create a song. The ice records are formulated using melted glacier water, which was frozen to shape into playable records.

Paterson’s flat, glittering surfaces are gradually scratched and dissolved by the needle and the warm air, creating unique sounds that recall rushing water, mixed with crystalline tinkling. It is simply an out-of-the-box idea that is here to spread environmental awareness.
