Jun Gil Park turns ‘Bananas’ into organic works of art

Banana Oxidation Art

Have you ever thought about converting the humble bananas into a canvas? Well an artist hailing from Australia, Jun Gil Park sure has discovered a novel method of sketching artwork by using a toothpick for a paintbrush and a banana for a canvas. A lot of artists do incorporate fruits (bananas included) for creating various pieces of artwork but these creations by Park using the technique of oxidation are extremely creative and realistic. Jun Gil Park produces his artwork by etching the design with the help of a toothpick by varying the intensity of the scratches.

Light scratches yield light tones and deeper scratches yield darker tones. The natural process of oxidation actually takes about five minutes to start showing up on the banana and after 24 hours the entire picture begins to look darker. The talented artist got his cue for this impressive art form by simply scribbling things down on a banana while sitting down for breakfast.

However, the only drawback about this art is that oxidation gets the better of the banana and hence the art doesn’t last that long. Hopefully, if there is a way to preserve these banana masterpieces, then this would be a great form of art for keeps.
