Inside the FHTC campus, a fully net zero energy house containing classrooms solicits its surfacing as Kansas State University, Flint Hills Technical College, and USD 253 join forces to bring this environmentally friendly construction into being. Designed by two K-State students, the home will cater more specifically to ‘students with disabilities’ from the Emporia public school district. Scholars from the Flint Hills Technical College’s construction area will imbibe the essence of eco-friendly construction while building the green home as part of their curriculum.
The site for construction has not been finalized up until now. Still, the proposal suggests that the main floor will be a 3000 square feet area; the classrooms with a walk out are supposed to be in the basement itself. The energy-efficient building will create more energy than it will consume over the course of the year.

W.S. & E.C. Jones Trust has come up with a donation of $200,000 dollars, which will lend a hand to the estimated construction-cost of approx. $533,000.
