Lung-shaped fuel cell trims down platinum usage while increasing efficiency

lung shaped hydrogen fuel cell

Researcher Signe Kielstrup from the Norway’s Academy of Science and Letters in Oslo relies on biomimicry while coming up with a lung-shaped fuel cell. The bronchial hydrogen fuel cell channelizes hydrogen and oxygen to its electrodes much more efficiently and uniformly. Moreover, since the cell demands less of the expensive platinum used as catalyst, it’s a cost-effective substitute to the modern day fuel cells.

The process, as is discussed in above passage, allows the gases to spread along a larger contact area inside the cell and thus, it increases the energy conversion ratio to the maximum.
