Auckland-based aluminum joiner Shane Wakefield has recently created a 6-foot architectural model of the Sky Tower using matchsticks as the main building material. This landmark-building model has been completed with a functional elevator and flashlights!

Certain health problems did not stop Shane from coming up with innovative ideas, like recreating the Sky Tower Model. This model was built from 7300 unbroken matchsticks, and take-away food containers. No an easy feat to achieve, it took 85 hours of persistent hard work and creativity to complete. Along the way came several hurdles, which Shane overcame, and the desire to succeed kept him focused on his goal.

Shane mentions that he used to ponder over how he could replicate the Sky Tower in his living room. Later, he started working on his mission of building the model, with help from his partner Sue, who helped him buy the raw materials he needed. She assisted him along the way to completion, and as hard work generally pays off, it turned out a marvelous replica indeed.

Since he is not the one to sit idle, Wakefield is already on his next mission. Now he plans to create the replica of the rollercoaster at the Rainbow’s End. And his admirers, who, by now, would have increased for sure, are waiting to see his next work of brilliance!
