Matthew Lloyd intros water and solar-powered wheelchair lift

Architect Matthew Lloyd has created a Perspex lift for those confined to wheelchairs. It runs on solar power and water and, moreover, is the world’s first zero-carbon lift. As Lloyd, just recently, planted it at the London Festival of Architecture, the machine is helping wheelchair users to stand close to the monument of the Grand Old Duke of York.

Will Aslop, the noted architect launched it last weekend. The elevator features two large roof-mounted solar panels that provide enough energy to the elevator. The water-filled weights counterbalance the elevator car itself. After getting his elevator patented anytime soon, Lloyd plans to provide three lifts for the London Olympics.
