Szandra Sándor, the designer of the Hungarian fashion brand Nanushka, has opened a uniquely designed temporary fashion store in her hometown. The architectural team behind the new Nanushka Beta Store consists of Daniel Balo, Zsofi Dobos, Dora Medveczky, Judit Emese Konopas and Noemi Varga.

Construction and appearance:

They made use of an inflated canvas canopy and sliced firewood floor as the core structure of the store. The billowed fabric measuring 250 square meters has been placed around the walls and ceiling of the shop creating a unique appearance for the renowned brand’s store. The floor area of the whole store features beautiful firewood rings made by sliced firewood circles. Simple logs of wood are used to function as stands for accessories and clothes. The beauty of the fabric ceilings are enhanced by hanging inflatable lights produced by Hungarian manufacturer Ballon.

Limitations:

Handpicked by Szandra Sándor, the architectural students had to work under certain constraints. Quick and imaginative solutions had to be arrived at by working together within a short time period. They were instructed not to harm the interior space and only minor drilling was permitted. They had to create a really unique theme for the store and the given space had an unusually elongated shape. Low budget was another constraint. Working under these constraints, the team has successfully come out with a warm interior that compliments the brand’s core values.

Inspiration:

The architects have derived inspiration from elements of wilderness and essentials from classical wedding tents and barn weddings. Appropriate raw materials were collected in view of these inspirational settings. The organic flow of the space created by the fabric is contrasted by rusted steel racks. The store harmoniously features rusty, rough, smooth and supple surfaces in a unique way. All the materials and elements used for the Nanushka Beta Store are highly eco friendly and can be recycled after its functional use.

The magical, one of a kind home for Nanushka in the heart of Budapest is created for the 2011 autumn/winter season.
