NASA and the U.S. Agency for International Development have unveiled SERVIR-Himalaya, a web-based environmental imaging and management system that will address critical issues such as land cover change, air quality, glacial melt and adaptation to climate change in Kathmandu, Nepal. SERVIR which means “to serve” in Spanish was developed by researchers at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.
After being successfully used in Mesoamerica and Africa, NASA’s proven SERVIR system has headed to the Himalayas to provide relevant information that improves understanding of issues related to climate variability and change. The system combines satellite imagery, data management tools and interactive visualization capabilities to help scientists, and decision-makers address climate change and environmental threats.
