Metros across the world are bursting on their seams trying to accommodate ever growing surge of migrants. Fast losing their green cover to rising concrete and pollution, the increasingly mechanized daily functions have left nothing even remotely close to being natural. However, one particular industrial district called Ile Saint-Dénis situated outside Paris is about to undergo an ecological transformation, thanks to a design proposed by West 8 and ING-Bremond.

The design aims at lending an expression of individuality to an area lost in the urban conundrum. The design’s objective is to create housing, employment and (aquatic) recreation to the inhabitants. It provides a rural expression to the island located in River Seine with a variety of typologies and dwelling forms that would be linked to different areas surrounding it with the help of a promenade and cycle tracks alongside the water.
