Photovoltaic system equipped greenhouse to enhance crop production in Italy

solar powered greenhouse

Solar ReFeel, a renewable energy company, has collaborated with solar industry leader Solyndra to star with their greenhouse project. Under this project, a greenhouse that is equipped with photovoltaic system will be tested for the efficiency of producing crops using green energy. Being carried out at a facility owned by a nonprofit company run by the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Handicraft and Agriculture of Savona, Italy, the test will show the potential of Solyndra’s photovoltaic systems.

Unlike other photovoltaic systems that use flat panels or films, Solyndra’s system has a cylindrical design that lets more light to pass through into the greenhouse, enabling crops to grow more efficiently. The company is out to merge of solar-powered sensor systems with the greenhouse that produces both food as well as electricity. This will improve the greenhouse efficiency even better.
