Pixelated birdhouses create a paradise of biodiversity in London

Developed out of a recent London Fieldworks project called Super Kingdom, the Spontaneous City in the Tree of Heaven is a sculptural installation designed as a reflection of the ecology and biodiversity of two sites on opposite sides of London – Duncan Terrace Gardens in the East and Cremorne Gardens in the West. The innovative bird-housing concept comprises of over 250 specially-made wooden bird and bug boxes that will provide shelter, nesting and feeding space to birds, bees, insects and other wildlife residing in the gardens.

Recently opened as part of the Secret Garden Project by UP Projects, this stunning sculptural art installation reflects the upper and lower windows of the Georgian terraces by the use of recessed square and arch shaped boxes, while to reflect the flat’s balconies the artist designed boxes with square and recesses. The contemporary pleasure garden for birds is a beautiful way to raise awareness of the ecological and cultural value of urban green space.
