The idle mind is often quoted to be the workshop of the devil. That is true in one perspective. But if the ‘idle’ mind is perceived as a free mind that has no limits to its imaginative capacities, wonders can be created. The Rain Cycle is one such marvelous creation. Rains bring out umbrellas in the public spaces. Once the user reaches the destination – a mall, a hotel, a hall, a theater – the umbrella is folded and taken in. Oops! There are water drops everywhere as the umbrella drips. Plastic bags have often been used as a remedy but they, at best, reduce the problem and do not solve it. Added to that, plastics are not ‘green’. It is definitely time to welcome the ‘green’ Rain Cycle.
Lets first face an impressive fact. The Rain Cycle can dry your umbrellas in 5 seconds flat! It consists of a ring through which you gently slide your folded umbrella. And then, as you slide it out, you will notice that it is completely dry! Install a couple of these systems at the entrance of any indoor joint and you will not have wet floors and dripping umbrellas anymore.
The process by which this happens is fascinating. The ring into which the umbrella is inserted has motion detectors which identify the insertion of the umbrella. The operation then begins. The base unit contains a huge fan that stirs up a strong wind which is then directed at the umbrella. Through the narrow gaps in the ring, the air rushes out in great force and dries the umbrella. The water does not evaporate but falls into the collecting area of the base unit. A single base unit comes attached with multiple drying rings.
Installing a Rain Cycle outside public spaces will greatly reduce the mess of a wet floor. Since there are multiple rings in a base unit and the time needed to dry an umbrella is less than five seconds, one need not worry about a queue and congestion building up at the entrance. There is also an indicator light on the ring which indicates that the process of drying is complete.
The green aspect of the Rain Cycle also comes from the fact that it also acts as a sort of rain water harvesting system. The collected rainwater in the base units is not wasted. It is then utilized for watering plants and small herbariums at the site itself. That is intelligence!
The construction of the Rain Cycle is sturdy and robust. It is coated and protected to keep it free of dust, grime, stains and rust. It is an easy-to-maintain device that would prove a blessing to any common area. The creator Gideon Lai has to be thanked for such an elegant idea.
