Have you ever heard about furniture-healing? I bet not! If human wounds can be healed, then even furniture wounds can be treated with utmost care and love. Treating old and injured furniture is an industrial designer who has given an all new existence to such worn-out pieces. Keeping intact the furniture’s cultural and delicate history, an attempt has been made to preserve the stories behind it. With an approach towards consumerism and utilizing things, it is a way of educating others, how even discarded stuff if looked at in a special way, can be renewed into beautiful home furnishing options.
The designer
A graduate from the Department of Industrial Design at the Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design, Jerusalem, Noam Tabenkin, is injecting a new life into tattered furniture. Conserving the history behind each piece is this 25 year old, who has succeeded to make even waste look pleasant.
Green treasure
Furniture that was thrown away thinking that there is no way any life can be pumped into it, was brought back to a sparkling new life again. Normally damaged furniture is never looked at again but each piece has a history behind it which Noam Tabenkin tried to preserve by genuine efforts. Instead of investing all the money on raw material, an effort was made to look at such discarded pieces with a different angle altogether. With an eye for detailing and working on all the defects which came along with these pieces, she managed to turn them into eye appealing furniture. Recycling comes with an added responsibility to look good, in this modern world. To protect our environment such green thoughts should be praised.
The fab factor
The whole idea to preserve the history behind each furniture item by repairing it is commendable. Giving such pieces a touch of modernity so that they are accepted, makes it even more eye appealing. Giving bits and pieces human-like gestures by mixing and matching just to do away with all defects, has been done very gracefully.
