A sustainable economy or green economy is an aim that is set by most of the countries today in order to maintain ecological balance and reduce the risks surrounding the environment. Various countries across the globe are introducing new initiatives and programs to pave the path that will lead them to green economy. Like most of the world, UAE has also stepped up in its efforts to develop a sustainable and green economy and it has been in news that it’s total investment will be as much as that of the US by the year 2020. UAE is all set to launch a nine year program to develop sustainable economy in the country.

Today, it goes without saying that only economic achievements are not enough to decide a country’s overall development. The country’s efforts to save the environment and its initiatives to adopt green ways of living are also vital factors that determine its growth rate. United Arab Emirates have been making quick developments when it comes to adopting green and clean technology. UAE have been busy launching many programs to achieve a title of a pioneer in green economy on a global level and the efforts are undoubtedly in favor of the country. One of the major initiatives launched by UAE was announced at the ‘2nd Green middle east environmental management and tech exhibition plus conference’ which began on October 15, 2012.

‘UAE strategy for green development’ is a very crucial nine year program introduced by United Arab Emirates and this program will focus on development of a green and sustainable economy in UAE. The initiative was declared by his highness, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum who happens to be the ruler of Sharjah and also a reputed member of Supreme Council. The conference began on October 15 and ended on October 17, 2012 and it took place in Expo Centre in Sharjah.
Through this program UAE is all set to be one of the major countries who will lead the world in developing green economy plus also be the focus point of importing and exporting the green and sustainable products plus technologies. There are many other aims and goals that the country is expecting to achieve through this green initiative. This program by UAE is definitely not the first of its kind by the country as it has already begun its green efforts through investing in a project named ‘Masdar’.
United Arab Emirates have invested capital in ‘Masdar’ which is primarily a purpose built city and it focuses on creating none harmful and toxic waste or emissions that could pose a threat to the environment. The announcement to launch this nine year program was during the launch of a global summit which was entertained by Abu Dhabi. Many global political leaders and renowned business personalities attended this summit. The main aim of having this global event was to encourage the use of green technology throughout the world.
Along with encouraging the use of green technology this summit also centered on effectual waste and water management. All the summits and initiatives launched by many countries like UAE have one common goal and that is to keep the environment safe from demons like pollution and global warming. If the environment is safe and healthy and it is only we who would avail the benefits therefore it becomes our moral duty and responsibility to adopt greener ways of living as they are healthy for one and all and it is the need of today!
