Pringle Brandon, Wilkinson Eyre Architects and Arup have designed a landmark sustainability center for Siemens. Proposed for construction near the Royal Victoria Docks in London’s Green Enterprise District, the center will ready itself for visitors before the Summer Olympics in 2012. The center will utilize various green technologies (during construction and sustenance as well) to achieve highest standards of sustainability.
Impressive design:
As Wilkinson Eyre’s expertise will lend it with a crystalline geometry (two interlocking parallelogram shapes with multiple triangular facets) to complement the curvy O2 center, you would see reflective and transparent materials installed on the facets to catch the light in different ways for creating a dynamic composition on the waterfront. Pringle Brandon takes care of the interior design spread across an area of 7,000 sq m, which includes an exhibition hall and a number of individual exhibition areas. A 300-seat auditorium, conference facilities, meeting rooms, office space, restaurant/café with outside seating, coffee shop and gift shop will be an essential part of the design.
Cornucopia of green tech included:
Maximum exposure to natural daylight will merge with high performance glazing, photovoltaic panels and energy efficient lighting for ensuring the sustainable texture of the construction. The building – made with recycled steel and industrial by-product cement – will also employ rainwater harvesting, water efficient appliances, ground source heat pumps and solar water heating. Finally yet importantly, sustainable drainage and water-efficient landscaping will help in creating a soothing waterside environment.
