Singapore promotes sustainable living with its first eco-town

punggol

Singapore is so into the green movement that it has decided to develop a complete city that will incorporate green features. As part of the government’s sustainable development blueprint, the town of Punggol will be shaped into Singapore’s first eco-town. It will be utilized as a ‘living laboratory’, where innovative green features, such as energy, water and waste management will be undertaken.

Designed to promote sustainable living through innovations, Punggol will include features like smaller, more intimate estates with common greenery and a wide range of housing with supporting facilities. In order to improve accessibility for residents, an integrated public transport network has been planned. One of the major initiatives for this sustainable city is the introduction of a waterway spanning across the town, and the Housing Development Board (HDB) is also pushing ahead with its solar test-bedding project with the installation of solar panels.
