Nearly five months ago, we ripped veils off the IT focused, non-profit Computer Aid International’s plan of installing a new solar-powered, shipping container based Internet café in Kenya. The cyber café has now started operating in Nairobi. Containing no less than 11 flat screen monitors, which are connected to a single Pentium 4 PC, rely on six roof-mounted solar panels to say no to mains.
The pre-built container that houses the Internet café was imported from London, thanks to Computers For Schools Kenya’s input. The solar panels provide 12 hours of electricity a day and are good for serving up to 25 years.
