Solar Relief Station housed within a recycled shipping container heads for Haiti

Jody Rael, the founder of Sun Dog Solar at Solaqua, and his team at Sun Dog are creating a mobile relief station out of an old shipping container for answering the various power-related needs of the earthquake-ravaged Haitian residents. The 20-foot box container is wired to solar panels that are supposed to produce sufficient clean energy for cooking food and boiling water.

A barge and truck will carry the container to a small village called Merger, which is situated outside of the capital city. The container will be filled with wheelchairs, shoes, clothes, dry foods, tents and other necessities. With some more finances raised through a benefit concert and silent auction this Saturday at their facility in Chatham, Sun Dog hopes to equip the relief station with more solar panels and ovens.
