A new solar-powered modular home was installed at site in far northeast Aurora. Delivered by a truck this structure is expected to be home to a number of experimental solar equipment. Crews at the Solar Technology Acceleration Center were overwhelmed to see the Solar Decathlon house that is designed to be completely powered by solar energy. The structure will standout at the site, located near Interstate 70 and Airpark Road, with the solar panels and other research devices that will arrive in the coming months.
Built by students from the University of Colorado at Boulder, the Solar Decathlon house will only be used as an exhibit and possibly provide occasional shelter from the wind for workers at the site. The site when completed will behave as a place where interested parties can build and test solar equipment. The facility is said to be a part of a growing trend that is seeing the region become a hub for solar energy technology.
