The Austin-Smith: Lord team, which includes JMP Transport Engineers, Curtins Structural Engineers and Hilson Moran on Environmental and M&E, has come up with a proposal of developing a sustainably green bus station for Stoke-on-Trent city. The bus station will utilize natural ventilation, rainwater‐harvesting and air‐source heat pumps. The notable design was acclaimed as the runner-up among 43 entrants in a high-profile bus station competition.
The team dwelt on the possibility of meeting the operational capacity requirements without using the Drive in Reverse out layouts. Earlier feasibility work carried out on the site was also analyzed for the purpose.
Aside from the use of natural ventilation, rainwater‐harvesting and air‐source heat pumps, a curvaceous canopy will provide shelter from rain and snow.
