Stunningly bizarre eco-friendly ideas

The earth is troubled with hundreds of man-made problems, such as global warming, pollution, landfill, destruction of natural resources and Green House gases. Scientists and researchers are doing their best to come up with viable solutions, which will be sustainable, for tackling these problems.

Science has given us the opportunity to convert natural, renewable sources of energy into usable energy like electricity. It has created solar panels, wind turbines and also trying to make good use of nuclear energy. However, along with so many great innovations, science and technology have also come up with some very odd and bizarre green ideas. Some of the weirdest green ideas have been shared in the following.

Blood lamps

Probably, inventor and designer, Mike Thompson wanted to teach a lesson to people who leave the lights on unnecessarily. He has come up with a special light bulb that activated only when the user gave it a drop of blood. This system will make people think twice before they try to switch on the lights.

Mike has used luminal for making this seemingly green bulb. The same chemical is used by forensic experts for testing blood in pathology labs. When mixed with blood this chemical glows bright blue. That’s how the blood bulb gives us light. Sound creepy and fit to be used by psycho scientists.

Dance energy

Nightclubs and discotheques which have glowing dance floor and dancing light balls consume too much electricity. Huge energy bills may or may not be a problem of the nightclub owners, but too much energy wastage is a public concern. Bar Surya is an eco-nightclub located in London, which has addressed this problem.

They have invented a unique way of generating and converting energy. For this purpose they have specially created a dance floor which converts the kinetic energy of dancing crowd into electricity. Around 60% of the power requirement of the nightclub is fulfilled in this way.

White Paper

Are you worried about the paper consumption in your office? Well, the White Goat is the perfect solution to this problem. Oriental has created a wonder machine which helps in reusing paper in offices. Insert used papers inside the machine and in about half and hour you will get a new roll of toilet paper ready to be used.

The machine shreds the used papers, soaks them in water for making dough and cuts them thin. The neatly cut paper then gets dried and rolled. Each toilet paper roll will cost you less than 12 cents. Toilets are always crammed during lunch hours and toilet papers are always in demand. This machine will help in recycling papers and supplying toilet papers according to requirements.

Use trash for construction

Though it sounds weird, the idea of using trash material for construction can actually work. Recently, an engineer from UK’s University of Leeds has invented a unique constructional material using household or office wastage like recycled glass, sewage sludge and incinerator ash.

According to the inventor, making this type of constructional blocks takes less money and time. It can be an effective way of reducing landfills. Some environmentalists and scientists have also decided to try their hands at making eco-friendly plastic by using feathers of chickens.

Bioplastics made of pig urine

Agroplast, a company based in Denmark, is using pig urine for making biodegradable plastic plates and utensils. They mainly process the urine for getting urea compounds. These compounds are used for producing bioplastics. Other companies are doing the same kind of thing using vegetable oils. The Dutch, however, firmly believe that pig urine will be more eco-friendly than oils.

There are odd eco-friendly ideas and products that will make you cringe and squirm. Scientists and researchers are trying to solve the human problems in unique ways. Sometimes unique translates into bizarre.
