Now this is truly hilarious. Imagine a situation where people are fighting over gaining access to pieces of trash. Wondering what I’m talking about? It’s the trash week (obviously inspired from the very famous, our own Fashion Week). The only difference was that the designers are not any hi-fi socialites but people like us who used general day to day pieces of trash to create superb mind blowing dresses for the models to showcase on the ramp. It’s a clear indication of reusing the wasted trash like plastic bags, discarded materials to create fancy dresses and host an elaborate fashion show for everyone to view. I would say this is called creativity coupled with a will to recycle as much as possible for benefit.
The fashion show held at the New York Fashion Academy in Ballard was a roaring success. Titled as the Trash Fashion Show, A part of the 10th Annual Recycled Arts & Fashion Show catered mainly to the clothes which had been designed as a part of a recycling campaign and with a proper ramp in place, the event saw the showcasing of a huge number of stunning dresses. The compare did a worthy job as she cracked a lot of jokes and had the audience rolling in fits of laughter.
Just think about it. You’re sitting in a fashion show, all decked up and eagerly waiting for some fancy names to be rolled off the mistress of ceremonies tongue, but you get to hear funny names as Lotta Rubish, Remixa Plastique, Anita Ujunka, Margarita Trashionista etc, would you also not be rolling in fits of laughter? Of course, the pun was intended.
The fashion show was done for a good cause and was a proud event hosted by the RE Store, a nonprofit organization involved in selling affordable building materials, more or less all of them salvaged from old buildings.
Every one of the attendees had a great time enjoying the dresses on display, marveling the creativity involved with the creation of dresses out of salvaged plastic bags, trash etc and the cat (trash) walks. Of course, a special mention goes to the Mistress of Ceremonies who did a great job of keeping every one entertained with her puns and cheeky comments.
The event was a green success, as benefits of recycling were highlighted with a great approach towards how everything can be molded into a great appearance. It was a great show and the audience loved every moment. I’d not be surprised if everyone was screaming ‘ONCE MORE, ONCE MORE’ after the show was over.
