At the moment, the accessible carbon capture technologies are not that developed to respond to the present requirement. Hence, researchers are coming up with newer inventions and researches to realize the same. UCLA graduate student Hexian Deng and biochemistry professor Omar M. Yaghi have developed certain designer crystals that are four times more efficient than the traditional practices of capturing carbon dioxide from exhaust pipes of vehicles and factories as well.
Basing the newly developed synthetic crystals on the coding ability of DNAs, their sponge-like projections trap GHGs with a creditable precision. Yaghi is hopeful of developing these crystals further to create fuel from CO2 or to ‘convert water to hydrogen.’
