Being Eco friendly and helping to save the environment in any way that we can, has become the responsibility of every human being on the planet. The environment is seeing a lot of changes like climate change, global warming, excessive pollution in the environment, deforestation etc. It is causing harm to the plants, animals and human beings all over the world.
A few weeks ago Pope Benedict XVI handed in his resignation as the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. The New Pope, Pope Francis I was elected on 13th March 2013 and he is now the head of the Roman Catholic Church. He is a native of Argentina in South America and the first Pope to be elected from South America. As people try to find out more about this pope, one of the questions asked is whether or not the Pope is friendly towards this environment. His predecessor Pope Benedict XVI has known to be concerned about the environment that we live in and also about the safety of the environment. He cared for the environment and while he was Pope, he spoke out about safety and protection of the environment and the “care for creation”.
The new Pope has just been elected and so there has not been enough time passed to figure out whether he will take initiative towards efforts to protect our environment. However there is certainly cause for hope. The Pope gave an inaugural speech after becoming the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. In his speech he urged his followers to become protectors of the environment that we live in. The message given by the Pope in his inaugural speech, was heard by millions of Catholics as well as people from other faiths all over the world. By giving the message of protecting the environment, the Pope has shown that he cares about protecting our environment.
The protection of the environment is an important problem the world is facing today. World leaders as well as religious leaders supporting the cause of saving the environment always help by sending a message to their supporters. When The Pope preaches about protecting the environment his supporters from all over the world understand the importance of it and can contribute toward being eco friendly in their own way. Hopefully in the future as well, the new Pope will take initiative toward protection of the environment.
