World’s cell phone towers to rely more on renewable energy

pike research cell phone base stations go green

Pike Research (a “market intelligence” business that specializes in green tech) has come up with a new research report, which says that by 2014, 4.5 percent of the cellphone tower base stations across the globe will be powered with renewable energy. Considering that only 0.11 percent of base stations rely on either solar or wind-based electrical power generators nowadays, a 4.39 percent increase in just four years is definitely elevating, and this will surely reduce the carbon footprint of these towers.

Pike has earlier reported that a traditional base station in the wild costs up to $8,000 to connect to a power grid. Therefore, installing a solar-wind combination with a back-up fuel cell system is definitely a worthy option.
