A range of green features included in the conception of Delft City Hall and Train Station enabled Netherlands-based Mecanoo to win the Green GOOD DESIGN Award 2010. The proposed construction will also seek to replace an obtrusive railway viaduct with an underground railway tunnel. Aside from featuring a highly stylized and transparent glass form, the hall and station building will be adorned with rooftop solar panels that will provide 20% of the building mechanics and light electricity load.

The sustainable design allows sufficient room for employing thermal storage to regulate climate control. The building will reuse the waste heat through a heat wheel. In all, the energy use will be 35% less than governmental recommendations.

The neat design assigns the first floor for multifunctional spaces, a restaurant, conference rooms and rooms for the Mayor and Alderman. Public counters, a front office, interview rooms, stairways and elevators to the upper offices, commercial facilities and sanitary facilities will take their place on the ground floor.
