Plymouth football sculpture made from recycled trash

Yesterday, we let you in on the facts how trash transforms into a work of art to enliven the symbol of the city of Liverpool. It has come about again in Plymouth, but in a different association altogether, as Cabinet Member for Street Scene, Waste and Sustainability, Councillor Michael Leaves unveils a sculpture of a child with a football made from recycled materials. The installation also describes South West’s successful run in recycling that has pressed on with a massive 28% increase since 1999.

Moreover, what the football sculpture will go on to support is Plymouth’s claim for a world cup venue.

Michael Leaves says…

We are getting better at recycling. But we carried out a survey last year which shows that there is still confusion about what we can be recycled. The most striking observation we found was the amount of ‘wrong’ plastic put in the recycling. We can take hard plastics such as clean plastic bottles, yogurt pots, margarine tubs but cannot take the soft plastics such as film, crisp packets, plastic bags, cellophane wrapping or expanded polystyrene.
