Trees have always caught attention of the eco-conscious, but the Bureau of Architecture, Research, and Design hopes to pull a few art lovers by giving an artful twist to these live savers. The Rotterdam-based bureau has designed the “ATREE?”, an extraordinary project. Chosen as a finalist in the upcoming European Competition of Architecture, Design, Realisations in Eco and Agro-Materal, the entery will compete with other 21 finalists. The installation encourages visitors to roam among the trees, even into and under each tree.

ATREE? is a project that sidelines construction and brings in tree plantation, but with lots of creativity and ingenuity. BOARD has designed some interesting tree molds that will give unique shapes to the trees as they grow with time. The installation could be used as an exhibition space or for other events. The molds that can be given various shapes to mold trees as per choice are made of castor plant vegetal oil. The added benefit is once the installation goes obsolete the proposed willow trees can be used as a renewable energy source, while molds can be completely recycles and used for tubes, wire, or electronic components.
