Little angels are the future and if we wish for a greener tomorrow, we will have to encourage them to take up green practices. One such effort to encourage an interest in engineering and green technology came from Greenpower electric car challenge organized by Cornwall College. The competition invites primary and secondary school students from Devon and Cornwall to designed and built eco-friendly cars using a 240-watt electric motor, four car batteries and other sustainable materials.
More than 1,000 pupils have been showing off their green credentials at RAF St Mawgan in Cornwall to win the competition. Penair School’s Green Lightning was announced the overall winner, while Newton Abbot College’s Team Lucy came as runner-up and Richard Lander School’s Racing One just behind them on the third spot. Richard Lander School’s Racing One is made from 97% biodegradable materials. The car is made from wood, stuck together with traditional glue made from animal hide and bones and the wood on the outside of the car is covered by silk. The Racing One won the team the Formula 24 “sustainability” category.
