On the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, in Boston, you could see a huge, 33-foot-long hammock (264 square feet area) swinging to gratify the bystanders. Hansy Better Barazza, a Roslindale architect and professor at Rhode Island School of Design, weaved 4,278 feet of rope made from recycled bottles over some curved steel pipes to create the giant public installation. The two-week art installation got a grant of $1,000 from The Awesome Foundation toward its construction.
After showing it for two weeks, the artwork could park itself somewhere on the Greenway permanently. Barraza will inaugurate the hammock tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. Open noon to 8 p.m. daily (volunteers tie it up at night), the hammock will keep entertaining the spectators until Sept. 4. Barazza hopes that Guinness World Records will declare her creation the biggest portable hammock.
