You have heard of the usual fabric for garments which include anything from cotton to jute and so on. Nowadays, people are going a step ahead and making clothes from materials which you cannot even think of, like garbage bags or toilet paper. But the latest one to enter the fabric making league, is going to surprise one and all. This mystery material is milk!
Yes, you heard it right. You might not believe it but then the girls in the picture above and the video, are wearing clothes which are manufactured from milk! No, we arenât talking about the powder. Weâre talking about liquid milk! This milk fabric has been created by a German biologist-cum-fashion designer Anke Domaske.
Going green: Anke, along with her team, has managed to find a way to convert sour milk into the most environmentally-friendly wear. Besides, the important aspect is that the entire process is actually quite clean and easy too. Now, you may ask, how in the world did they manage to do this? The answer is simple: They first got rid of the entire liquid from milk and then extracted a protein which usually solidifies. The same was later grounded into threads to create the fabric.
That silky fabric: Domaske, who finds the entire process quite intriguing, says that she thought that milk was extremely underrated, as it was used only for consumption and was not even being researched for other purposes. As per Anke, a lot of things could be prepared from milk as it is one of the most wonderful raw material ever present. According to her, milk has a very silky feel which makes it extremely special. This also makes its fabric a bit like silk which can give brilliant drapes. Besides, this fabric is cheaper than silk and hence affordable.
As she says, she decided to come up with milk clothes because of its eco-friendly existence and unlike silk, there was no use of any kind of pesticides during its production process. Besides, the reward she got in the end product was this light and silky fabric. The entire process actually recycles the milk which is spoiled. Her designs are set to go up for sale at $ 290 per piece, which is quite cheap considering the feel of the clothes and also their quality.
