The designer
Hetty Rose is a name that will turn many designers green with envy. Not only because of her innovative designs but also because of her eco-friendly creations. A graduate from London College of Fashion with a degree in Footwear Design & Development (Cordwainers), Hetty Samuel Rose set up her company “Hetty Rose” in 2007. Soon enough she was selected to exhibit her first season at the prestigious London Fashion Week.
Her latest offering is the range of pretty peep-toes, flats, and pumps in the label’s signature kimono fabric. But what makes it special is that these shoes are made from recycled and vintage materials. When asked about what inspired her to create such a line, Hetty says,
I have always been conscious of sustainability and sensitivity in design. For me, making products that are both functional and beautiful includes them being sustainable, too. I wanted to create a brand that was both ethical and beautiful, by creating shoes people would treasure.
The inspiration
Hetty Rose has always been conscious of sustainability, so old things lying waste always inspire her. She enjoys re-using and re-working vintage materials in a creative and sustainable way, hand-making gorgeous, feminine shoes to fit.
The green factor
The shoes are not only pretty to adorn but also contribute to Mother Nature. These eco-friendly shoes are made of reclaimed, recycled and vintage materials. Each of the hand-made pairs is carved out of eco-sensitive vegetable-tanned leather. Thus, Hetty has brilliantly extended the life of these recyclable products to a good 10-15 years.
