A scientific assertion that geomagnetic field reversals occur every couple hundred thousand years is about to get strongly contested. A second example of speedy change in geomagnetic direction has been reported from US state of Nevada where rocks indicate that Earth’s field moved 53 degrees in a year. It is believed that is this rate remained constant then the poles would have reversed in well under four years. Already overdue for a pole reversal, scientists argue that the earth might be entering one now during which a particularly rapid shift could cause chaos for bird’s migration patterns and human navigational instruments.
