A family living in Mesa, Arizona has found a brilliant green way to feed itself and live more self-sufficiently. What these environmentalists have done is they have concerted an old unused backyard swimming pool into a very productive DIY urban greenhouse. Dubbed the “Garden Pool”, this inexpensive and self-sufficient urban greenhouse produces organic fruits, all kinds of vegetables and herbs. In addition, the family raises chickens and tilapia fish too.

The Garden Pool is a green oasis offering eco-friendly lifestyle. It includes countless green features like organic horticulture, hydroponic gardening, aquaculture, poultry farming and biofiltration. It not only harnesses solar energy and stores it for future use, but also has provision for water conservation by using less water and recycling wastewater. The project took off in 2009 and aimed to become self-sufficient by 2012, but the incorporation of various green techniques led to the goal within a year.
