Ford’s zero emission Transit Connect Electric set for European debut in 2011

Exciting developments in electric vehicle technology are fast lifting customer qualms on EV driving range and charging problems on the go. No wonder that automakers are announcing plans aimed at spreading the electric vehicle footprint across the globe. With the debut of its Transit Connect Electric at the 2010 IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover, Germany Ford has proclaimed that it would sell the car in Europe by 2011.

Co-developed with electric vehicle partner Azure Dynamics, the Transit Connect Electric is a zero emission, 100% electric powered version of the award-winning Transit Connect light commercial vehicle. The vehicle has a driving range of up to 130 km and takes 10 hours to fully charge using 230 V. Transit Connect light has a top speed of 120 km/h and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 12 seconds.

The company expects that the vehicle will offer its commercial customers an additional option for environmentally advanced transportation. Following the debut of Transit Connect light Ford hopes to make available a whole range of fully electric and hybrid vehicles in Europe.
